One-line verdict
A surprisingly successful revival that fully commits to absurdity and literal humour — as long as you leave your logical brain at home.
What worked
- This feels true to the spirit of the original films. The humour is built on taking things literally, long before “literally” became overused in the 2010s.
- The plot is simple, and that actually helps. It never pretends to be smarter than it is.
- Liam Neeson works far better than expected in this role. His seriousness plays perfectly against the nonsense.
- Pamela Anderson is a great fit for the tone and complements Neeson well.
- The supporting cast is stacked with familiar faces and understands the assignment.
What broke
- This kind of comedy isn’t for everyone.
- If you try to apply logic or complain about how illogical the movie is, you’re completely missing the point.
- Calling this movie unrealistic is like saying water is wet.
- The story itself is thin. A stronger or smarter plot could’ve pushed this closer to an 8.
What others are saying
- Generally positive reactions to the tone and commitment to slapstick.
- Many are surprised by how well Liam Neeson fits the role.
- Critics and audiences agree it only works if you fully accept the absurdity.

Why this worked for me
I went in not expecting much and came out pleasantly surprised. The movie doesn’t try to modernise the humour too hard or explain itself. It just commits.
That commitment is what makes it work. The jokes land because the movie never breaks character or apologises for being stupid on purpose.
This lands at a 7 for me. It’s funny, self-aware, and respectful of the original tone. A better plot could’ve pushed it higher, but as it is, it does exactly what it sets out to do.
